Green Experience Through Theatre Inspiring Communities
PROJECT
Green Ethics (Green E.Th.I.Cs) is a European social and community theatre project that promotes civic engagement through performing arts. It aims to raise awareness about climate change while encouraging citizen participation, critical thinking, and proactive action.
PARTNERS
The project is being developed by 18 main partners across 12 European countries, in collaboration with associated partners, local authorities, and stakeholders in the cultural and environmental sectors.
The project involves 110 European cities across 12 EU countries—Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Hungary, Poland, Latvia, Bulgaria, and Serbia. ZIP participates as one of the project’s green and technical partners.
PROJECT GOALS
→ GREEN TRANSITION IN CULTURAL FIELDS: make sustainability a core objective for professionals by providing technical infrastructure, protocols, and skills.
→ GREEN SOCIETY INVOLVEMENT IN CULTURE: include European citizens in artistic processes, promote critical thinking and make scientific information on climate change accessible.
2 INNOVATIVE FORMATS
The project will create:
→ GREEN E.Th.I.Cs Live Game: An interactive theatre performance on environmental issues that uses the arts to encourage critical thinking and involves the public in creating content, making them active participants in civic engagement. The game is designed in 3 formats: Live, Board and Online. This means that the audience becomes actively involved and is able to change the course of the theatre performance.
→ Bicycle-powered theatre: a prototype that can fully power a stage using a cogeneration system. It is powered by the audience members cycling, which raises awareness of sustainability among participants through an experiential approach. This means that while riding on a bike, spectators are given the opportunity to try generating electricity for the theatre performance.
